Freshman year overview...

1) Projects and the HoHMs
f) Why do we create drafts? Why do we create multiple drafts?
Drafts are the first copy of what you are drawing, writing, etc... Because it's your first draft, there is always the chance that there will be errors and things you need to add or subtract from your work. Drafts leave room for refinement, or making things better. When you create multiple drafts, you work on perfecting your essay each and every time.
h) Can you describe a situation or time where you felt you really learned a particular HoHM? Please describe. Explain what this HoHM really means to you.
When I was in Ted's class working on the Bridge Project, I decided that a zip tie would look fantastic as a ring, forgetting that they tighten and can't release. I managed to cut off my circulation and had to deal with a painful, scary situation to get it removed. I learned mindfulness and thinking in the present. If I would have been mindful and thought about the consequences of my actions, the zip tie would never be around my finger. I learned that mindfulness is really important through out anybodies life.
2) Personal Growth and Development
c)Have you challenged yourself to "get out of your comfort zone"? Explain.
I think everyone this year has been shoved out of their comfort zone. My class shares speeches every Friday, we have to ask the teachers for help ALL THE TIME , and quite often I get put into groups with people who I don't know. This year has been a destroyer of comfort zones and it was so great learning to get out of your comfort zone to learn something new.
d)What are your career interests? Have they changed this year?
Ever since I was little I wanted to be an actress. I've grown up with that dream, my hopes narrowing every year. Four months ago I decided that I would love to be a radio host! As well as a photographer or something along those lines. I don't think I would have ideas of these careers if I didn't come to High Tech High. If I was at the school I was going to be at, my career limits would leave me thinking the best job for me would be working as a waitress.
3)Organizational Skills and Time Management
c)Have you used your time wisely on projects or class work throughout the year? If you did not, what would you do differently to help you stay on task?
I personally think I am very good at time management. I always do my work on time and I manage to do all my work, and homework, at school so I have a break at home.

The Fifth Element Utopian Movie Review

Title:
The Fifth Element
Main Characters:
Korben Dallas
Leeloo
Victor Cornelious
Ruby Rhod
Setting(s) of the film:
Space, the universe, planets, earth
Brief Description of the plot (in your own perspective):
The world is about to get destroyed by pure evil and the only thing that can stop it is the 5 elements. Korben Dallas needs to find the 4 stones and learn how to work the elements to stop the destruction of the earth.
How is the world in the movie different from the world in real life:
The world in this movie is more advanced technologically. It has a lot of different types of aliens and such and transportation is available to every planet.
Why do you think this world was created (in the perspective of the people in the film):
This world was created to make a good movie. It is a utopia because it created a world where life is supposed to be easier because there is more technology to help people through their daily lifes.
How does this movie question or challenge our ideas about what is ideal:
This movie, for me, raised the question of whether our ideal worlds would be achievable when so much is out of our control.
What ideas do you get from this film for your own ideal world movie:
I like the idea of the computer systems remembering the driver and everything being personalized. I also like the homestyle living that they have.

Haitian

I live in Haiti. You ever heard of it? It's a Godforsaken island. One of the poorest. 'Scuse me, THE poorest. I was born here, unwillingly. My parents hardly have enough money for us to survive. If we are lucky we got a dollar a day. But we are starving. We live off a diet of rice and, oh let me not forget, rice. The government is freaking corrupted. I don't know why we have to be so poor. I've heard there's a magical place called the "U.S". It's said to have enough money to buy more than three meals a day.
Wow that would be delicious.
But getting back on topic, our food is scarce. And not only are we starving BUT the stupid government just raised the prices of the only food we have.
WHY?! everyone is wondering, but nobody know. The government [s]hardly[/s] let's us have a say in things.
My people, my neighbors are getting impatient. They struggle to care of their families and themselves. We don't know what to do.
Riots have been breaking out, violent protests against the government. Demanding food.
Hunger, pain, hurt, death.
Only five have died so far. Yesterday was the most intense riot. They went to the government building and started trying to open the gates. The police came and sprayed tear gas and shot rubber bullets.
Should I join the protests?
Should I silently die of starvation?
Should i swim across the ocean to the amazing place called "U.S"?
I'd probably die trying any of these.
It's a lose lose situation.
So I guess i have made up my mind.

A day in the life of Eden, the hunter-gatherer

I wake up early in the morning. It's cold, the birds are noisy, the sun is to bright. I stood up to fast and BAM broke my twig shelter. I felt like Eeyore, every day my house gets shattered no matter how hard i work to get it fixed. Oh well.
My stomach starts growling. Great, it's early, I'm hungry and I KNOW my food is not going to come easy. Sigh. I go over to my hunting partners Maya and Adhara and wake them up.
"Hey" they say simultaneously. I didn't even need to explain. It's the same every morning, no matter were we go. We wake up much to early, get in our hunting groups and go out.
We gathered our weapons, quite primitive i must say. We saw a tribe yesterday with some queer looking new weapons but my tribe being "traditional" or whatever refused to trade. Sigh. Anyways, we gathered our weapons and our bags and started off into the forest. I heard there was a family of deer over on the north west side of the forest so we headed over there. After about 7 hours of walking and collecting fruits on the way, we spotted the deer from lengths away and realized that it was going to be difficult to catch one. They were to far away and there was no place to hide so we could sneakily throw our spears.
We spotted a small berry bush and walked over to gather some berries then realized we could use it as our cover.
"On the the count of three." I said. I held one finger up, two fingers up, THREE. We jumped out of the bushes rapidly and threw our spears. All the deer ran away except for two that were bleeding on the floor. "Thank you brother deer," I said "for giving up your life for mine." On the way back to camp we patted each other on the shoulders. We killed two deer with three spears. That's particularly good for three young female hunter-gatherers.
Skipping the bloody details of the skinning of the deer and the collection of it's edible meats, we threw everything into our sacks and headed back to our camp. By the time we got there our collapsible homes were in deer skin sacks and ready to be carried for travel. We're moving AGAIN?, i thought to myself. I'd love to just settle down, stay somewhere. Like that's going to happen. Well anyways, i brought the food over to the women in the camp, one of them being my mother. My mother kissed me proud of my victory in catching dinner for the tribe and started to prepare the meal.
