Why do we create multiple drafts?
Drafts are the first copy of what you are drawing, writing, etc... Because it's your first draft, there is always the chance that there will be errors and things you need to add or subtract from your work. Drafts leave room for refinement, or making things better. When you create multiple drafts, you work on perfecting your essay each and every time.
h) Can you describe a situation or time where you felt you really learned a particular HoHM? Please describe. Explain what this HoHM really means to you.
When I was in Ted's class working on the Bridge Project, I decided that a zip tie would look fantastic as a ring, forgetting that they tighten and can't release. I managed to cut off my circulation and had to deal with a painful, scary situation to get it removed. I learned mindfulness and thinking in the present. If I would have been mindful and thought about the consequences of my actions, the zip tie would never be around my finger. I learned that mindfulness is really important through out anybodies life.
2) Personal Growth and Development
c)Have you challenged yourself to "get out of your comfort zone"? Explain.
I think everyone this year has been shoved out of their comfort zone. My class shares speeches every Friday, we have to ask the teachers for help ALL THE TIME , and quite often I get put into groups with people who I don't know. This year has been a destroyer of comfort zones and it was so great learning to get out of your comfort zone to learn something new.
d)What are your career interests? Have they changed this year?
Ever since I was little I wanted to be an actress. I've grown up with that dream, my hopes narrowing every year. Four months ago I decided that I would love to be a radio host! As well as a photographer or something along those lines. I don't think I would have ideas of these careers if I didn't come to High Tech High. If I was at the school I was going to be at, my career limits would leave me thinking the best job for me would be working as a waitress.
3)Organizational Skills and Time Management
c)Have you used your time wisely on projects or class work throughout the year? If you did not, what would you do differently to help you stay on task?
I personally think I am very good at time management. I always do my work on time and I manage to do all my work, and homework, at school so I have a break at home.
Setting(s) of the film:
Space, the universe, planets, earth
Brief Description of the plot (in your own perspective):
The world is about to get destroyed by pure evil and the only thing that can stop it is the 5 elements. Korben Dallas needs to find the 4 stones and learn how to work the elements to stop the destruction of the earth.
How is the world in the movie different from the world in real life:
The world in this movie is more advanced technologically. It has a lot of different types of aliens and such and transportation is available to every planet.
Why do you think this world was created (in the perspective of the people in the film):
This world was created to make a good movie. It is a utopia because it created a world where life is supposed to be easier because there is more technology to help people through their daily lifes.
How does this movie question or challenge our ideas about what is ideal:
This movie, for me, raised the question of whether our ideal worlds would be achievable when so much is out of our control.
What ideas do you get from this film for your own ideal world movie:
I like the idea of the computer systems remembering the driver and everything being personalized. I also like the homestyle living that they have.

Haitian

I live in Haiti. You ever heard of it? It's a Godforsaken island. One of the poorest. 'Scuse me, THE poorest. I was born here, unwillingly. My parents hardly have enough money for us to survive. If we are lucky we got a dollar a day. But we are starving. We live off a diet of rice and, oh let me not forget, rice. The government is freaking corrupted. I don't know why we have to be so poor. I've heard there's a magical place called the "U.S". It's said to have enough money to buy more than three meals a day.
Wow that would be delicious.
But getting back on topic, our food is scarce. And not only are we starving BUT the stupid government just raised the prices of the only food we have.
WHY?! everyone is wondering, but nobody know. The government [s]hardly[/s] let's us have a say in things.
My people, my neighbors are getting impatient. They struggle to care of their families and themselves. We don't know what to do.
Riots have been breaking out, violent protests against the government. Demanding food.
Hunger, pain, hurt, death.
Only five have died so far. Yesterday was the most intense riot. They went to the government building and started trying to open the gates. The police came and sprayed tear gas and shot rubber bullets.
Should I join the protests?
Should I silently die of starvation?
Should i swim across the ocean to the amazing place called "U.S"?
I'd probably die trying any of these.
It's a lose lose situation.
So I guess i have made up my mind.

A day in the life of Eden, the hunter-gatherer

I wake up early in the morning. It's cold, the birds are noisy, the sun is to bright. I stood up to fast and BAM broke my twig shelter. I felt like Eeyore, every day my house gets shattered no matter how hard i work to get it fixed. Oh well.
My stomach starts growling. Great, it's early, I'm hungry and I KNOW my food is not going to come easy. Sigh. I go over to my hunting partners Maya and Adhara and wake them up.
"Hey" they say simultaneously. I didn't even need to explain. It's the same every morning, no matter were we go. We wake up much to early, get in our hunting groups and go out.
We gathered our weapons, quite primitive i must say. We saw a tribe yesterday with some queer looking new weapons but my tribe being "traditional" or whatever refused to trade. Sigh. Anyways, we gathered our weapons and our bags and started off into the forest. I heard there was a family of deer over on the north west side of the forest so we headed over there. After about 7 hours of walking and collecting fruits on the way, we spotted the deer from lengths away and realized that it was going to be difficult to catch one. They were to far away and there was no place to hide so we could sneakily throw our spears.
We spotted a small berry bush and walked over to gather some berries then realized we could use it as our cover.
"On the the count of three." I said. I held one finger up, two fingers up, THREE. We jumped out of the bushes rapidly and threw our spears. All the deer ran away except for two that were bleeding on the floor. "Thank you brother deer," I said "for giving up your life for mine." On the way back to camp we patted each other on the shoulders. We killed two deer with three spears. That's particularly good for three young female hunter-gatherers.
Skipping the bloody details of the skinning of the deer and the collection of it's edible meats, we threw everything into our sacks and headed back to our camp. By the time we got there our collapsible homes were in deer skin sacks and ready to be carried for travel. We're moving AGAIN?, i thought to myself. I'd love to just settle down, stay somewhere. Like that's going to happen. Well anyways, i brought the food over to the women in the camp, one of them being my mother. My mother kissed me proud of my victory in catching dinner for the tribe and started to prepare the meal.
<img width='1' height='1' Leonard looks like he's in his mid-70's…maybe, I'm really bad at determining age. He's wearing a vintage light orange-brown blazer as well as a pair of dark brown trousers. His collared shirt is a somewhat beige color and he has a yellow and brown print tie. He is also wearing a different lighter brown bowler hat. He has a ticket in his hand and he looks a bit weak. he's quite short. It looks like Leonard is pushing through the turny things to get through airport security. He has a piece of paper that looks kind of like a ticket. So he's probably boarding a flight. His skin tone is quite light. Maybe an average American senior citizen? I'm unsure. His posture is somewhat slouchy so he might have back problems, most old people have health issues of some sort anyway. There is no visible hair, he could be bald. His facial expression looks somewhat awestruck and innocent. Like "What the..?" Lost in thought, clueless. Or...whatever. I don't know why this picture "struck" me. In my opinion, this old man Leonard looks like a pretty funny guy. I think he reminds me of the old guy from the six flags commercials. Or maybe I just think all old people are funny. Yet again, I don't know. If I had to come up with EXACTLY what Leonard was doing, it would be that he is retired and decided to go visit...Jamaica where his daughter lives. Leonard's a pretty cool guy. He used to work at Microsoft, actually he was the first Bill Gates. But of course, he didn't get any credit. He retired about 3 years ago and decided to visit his only daughter before his time had past.

MAYBE
Leonard is heading to the funeral of his best friend Jeffree. He was asked to make a speech infront of everyone at the funeral. As he was heading to the train (not an airport, a train station) he was thinking of what he should say and suddenly FLASHHH!!! A blinding light struck this senior citizen into shock. He has no clue that his picture got taken and posted and Bill Sullivan's Turnstyle Project website or that it's on my blogger. He was just minding his own business.

Mulan

While watching Mulan I have to say there were a LOT of values portrayed in this movie. Through out only three scenes from this movie I found 72 obvious values that were shown. But are these really Chinese values or American values with some Chinese culture? In my opinion, Chinese culture and values were appropriately presented in this movie. But of course, I have never been to China and therefor have no right to critique. But in the end, after the reading the articles written by Katherine Kim and Andrea Quong, I realized that Disney was WAY off when they tried to show Chinese culture. First off, and the most obvious, more than half of the characters in the movie don't have a Chinese accent, yet they are from China. Second, Disney tends to show a lot of the negative sides of Chinese culture (with the whole sexist issue) failing to realize that if your part of that Chinese culture, it's common and not as big of an issue. Also, it explains quite clearly about the beauty in China being expresses through make up and kimono's but, oddly, not through the binding of feet. But then again, I thought deeper into it, and the movie seems to have a lot of truth as well. The story of Mulan is a legend and legends are parts of culture. They exemplified very well what Chinese men found "beautiful" and their view on woman back then. Not only did they show the attitude towards people and issues back then but they included how they ate and how they dressed. In this sense, Disney was very accurate in sending out the message on how China is, or at least how it was back then. But really, this movie was made by Disney people, most likely Americans getting some ideas from Chinese people. I have to agree with Katherine Kim when she said that Mulan was more accurate then previous Disney movies (i.e. Pocahontas, Aladdin etc...), but I think that Andrea Quong analyzed it way to far and in that effort, forgot this movie is meant to appeal to the younger persona.

emailllll meeeee<3

xeskimoxkissesx@gmail.com
andand post comments.

If you were the supreme ruler of the world, what would you do to change the relationship between Mexico and the United States?

If I was supreme ruler, to be honest, the relationship between the United States and Mexico wouldn't be my top priority. BUT, if it came down to making a decision on what I could do, there's a lot. I mean if i was supreme ruler I'm sure people would listen to me. I'd call for world peace. I'd make it so there were no borders and that all countries would be able to thrive with the same amount of resources. I'd make sure every government was friendly with the next. Borders, in general, wouldn't literally have to exist. But if you talk to us, you will realize that we do care and we do want to help. I attend High Tech High Chula Vista and I think we need to find a way to benefit the border region. There are many ways we can contribute to our society, and to the border region. For one, we just finished with our debate tournaments and we became very knowledgeable on multiple topics. We could share the knowledge we learned with those across the border so they can be successful and prosperous in their own country. That way they don't have to feel like they must immigrate to the United States to do well in life. We could also open up the eyes of the Chula Vista residents by showing them the harms the United States and Mexico cause each other. There are many ways we could help but i think making people more knowledgeable might be the best way. We could also raise money and have toy drives for the orphans in Mexico. We could try and get more involved with what's going on and look up ways we could help Mexican residents. Sometimes all people need is some one to talk to. And we could give them that as well.

Stereotypes: What and where?

Dictionary.com's definition for stereotype is "A conventional, formulaic, and oversimplified conception, opinion, or image." Stereotypes are the way people group others. Often stereotypes are the assumptions we make about someone by the way they dress or look. We put people in these metaphorical boxes that separate them from everybody else. In simpler, more understandable words that dictionary definition means: "a way of using your opinions or those of others to form how you see somebody." Stereotypes are ancient human nature. The same way someones stomach growls and they know they are hungry, people group others by how they look. It's almost second nature when you meet someone. I know that on my first day of school I saw people and automatically started making assumptions by how they looked. I'm sure everyone stereotypes. It's something that has become common in our community. Your parents do it as well. If you have a friend who is not as modest with their clothing as other's they automatically assume that that person is loose or irresponsible with their own body. And within that comment I stereotyped a parent to be strict. Stereotypes aren't always good but they are how we describe people. I think stereotypes have existed ever since people were able to communicate. But stereotypes also come from the fear people have to be different. Stereotypes are put on people by the way they look, act, their race, their facial features, their body shape and even their religion. Stereotypes are everywhere and sometimes guide who we develop friendships with. They are part of everybody and every community.

Why does the world have borders?

Why does the world have borders? That's a good question. Personally, i have never pondered that myself. It's, in a sense, the same reason why we all have different houses to live in. The United States has been claimed the most prosperous country in the world, but what makes it different than the rest? Well, for one the way the United States is run. Our government is a lot more fair than many other countries. Also, we are NOT a poor country. But, if we are so great, then why don't we share our wealth with the rest of the world? Every single person has a right to their own opinion. And in my opinion i think it has to do with selfishness. Of course there are organizations that fund to help those in need but we could be doping a lot more. The world was created without borders, so why have them now? To separate opinions, to keep from one country messing up the next. Who really knows? Sometimes it seems borders are unnessacery but what if we didn't have them? How would we be able to know that we are safe? If we didn't have borders than we wouldn't have seperate countries and without separate countries we wouldnt have an orderly government system. So one person would be manning the whole world and that wouldn't nessacerly work out. In the end, borders are a good thing to have but we need to sort out our priorities and find out why we put them there in the first place.

How does the U.S harm Mexico? How does Mexico harm the U.S?

Mexico and the United States, both very different countries separated by a wall known as the border. Because these two countries are so close they both affect each other. Sadly, it's not always in a positive way. Mexico and the United States both harm each other in many different ways. For instance, illegal immigration. This affects the United States negatively because the illegal immigrants get jobs, free education and alot of things that U.S citizens would normally end up paying for. Also, Mexicans have smuggled illegal weapons, drugs and even people over the border. The United States has also caused Mexico harm. The United States has a tendency to discriminate those who have crossed the border, whether legal or illegal. There have been cases where Mexicans who were here legally were not able to get a job due to the racism of job owners. Also, the United States pollutes a lot. Because Mexico is so close, they get a lot of the pollution we make. Therefore making Mexico suffer from pollution of water and air. Not only that but the United States makes it hard for mexicans to cross the border legally. There's so much paperwork you need to get done and some people just don't have enough money.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://edensdisease.blogspot.com/2007/11/how-does-us-harm-mexico-how-does-mexico.html' title='How does the U.S harm Mexico? That's a very good question. There are many answers. For me the biggest reason would be to escape. If I ever immagrated i would only leave because i wanted to get away from something. My old life, pain, a crime or a political problem. I don't know nessacerly what it would be because i haven't been in that situation. But if so, it would be most likely to escape. Another reason would be that I lost something extremely important to me. My house, my family, my job. It would still, in a sense, be escaping. But more because i lost something and i want to start over. Another situation would be if the place i was in just contradicted my views to much or something along those lines. I don't think i'd ever immagrate. But if i did, I would go to Canada. There aren't many reasons except that Canada is close, peaceful and pretty rad. I think the immagrants from Mexico come to the United States because they have heard about how "nice" and "prosperous" it is here. Also they might leave where they were because of poverty. They might think if they move somewhere else they could start their not-so-great life over and mold it into something new and nice by moving somewhere new. I know there are lots of stories about how the United States is such a great place and so on and so forth and I am pretty positive that those stories could convince any person with a not so decent life to go where they are talking about.

Why are things different when you cross the U.S.-Mexico border?

To be honest, this question is a bit hard for me to answer. I have crossed the border, multiple times, but I'm usually asleep. The first thing I notice that is different in Mexico is the terrain. I usually notice hills and mountains that are mostly dirt and such instead of plants. I also notice the randomly scattered houses. They always make me laugh because they are so unusually colored and weirdly placed. I notice that there are not as many people so the roads are usually empty and the stores aren't as crowded. Also, there are no skyscrapers or huge industries equaling no buildings blocking the view of the sky. You can also see the poverty in certain cities. There are many homeless people and a lot of the shops and houses are not as fancy. Compared to the United States, Mexican citizens are a lot skinnier. You can see that they don't eat excess food like the U.S. does. There is also a difference in smells. In United States it smells clean and most of the time fresh, but in Mexico it smells like trash and sewage. I was told that it smells bad in Mexico because they burn their trash but I'm unsure if that is true.

Experimantation

Gawsh this is so new to me
So yup just messing with codes and such.
